Yes, I am White.
I am White and I am tired of seeing injustice. I am tired of living in a world where people of color are treated harshly and negatively because of their skin tone. I am tired of seeing confederate flags, hearing racist remarks, and the lack of justice given for years of enslavement and segregation. I am tired of seeing innocent lives taken. I am tired of nothing changing.
If I am this tired, I cannot even come close to imagining how all my Black brothers and sisters feel.
BLACK LIVES MATTER. BLACK LIVES ARE IMPORTANT. BLACK LIVES ARE WHAT BUILT THIS COUNTRY… and it’s always been time to start acting like it.
It’s time we unite, It is time we visit each other’s neighborhoods. It is time we protest together. It is time we eat meals together. It is time we celebrate together, lament together, and experience every emotion in between, united. If we haven’t already, this is the time to experience a culture that isn’t our own. This is the time to read about a culture that isn’t our own. This is a time to get out of our bubble of safety and security and fight for what is right. It is time to fight for the lives of people of color. If the person reading this is White, then it is time to put away pride and ego and fight for a cause that affects us all because if even one person of our society is mistreated, it affects us all.
Separation is the biggest lie we tell ourselves; we are all connected. If one person suffers, we all suffer.
Stand together, stand united, and stand up for what is right.
I hope we never forget what our country is going through. I hope we never forget the hands that built this country. I hope we never forget the dark 9 minutes that lead to George Floyd’s death. I hope we never forget 50 states protesting for one cause. I hope we never forget this. I hope we never forget that Black Lives Matter.
